After a successful remake of “The Karate Kid”, which made Will Smith’s twelve-year old son, Jaden, a household name, Smith is out to market another movie remake with another of his children, nine-year old Willow, in the lead role and is looking to “Glee” creator and walking show tunes encyclopedia Ryan Murphy to helm the movie.
Smith and Sony Pictures are working on a remake of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful musical “Annie” with Willow playing the title role. And to ensure the success of the project, reports have swirled that the movie outfit and the blockbuster movie star, whose last film project in which he starred in was 2008’s “Seven Pounds”, are in talks with the creative genius behind “Glee” who also helmed 2010’s “Eat, Pray, Love” starring Julia Roberts, which granted Murphy a $5 million movie deal with Sony to direct another project with Roberts after the worldwide success of the summer film adaptation of the Elizabeth Gilbert bestselling novel.
As for Willow, while her acting chops are yet to be seen (unlike her older brother whose film credits pre-Karate Kid include “The Pursuit of Happyness” and “The Day the Earth Stood Still”), she has started to make a name for herself in the music biz with her debut track “Whip My Hair” receiving more than ample airplay, whether or not she and Jaden can both sustain their successes, regardless of their father’s help, still remains to be seen.
