Chewbacca Gets Festive on ‘Glee’ Christmas Episode

Posted by Glee Addict On December - 6 - 2011

‘Glee’ will be singing a whole lot of Christmas songs next week, but none of it can completely describe the kind of Christmas the Gleeks will have in the upcoming episode.

In classic ‘Glee’ fashion, their Christmas episode will feature a mash-up of the Judy Garland Christmas special and everyone’s favorite sci-fi movie franchise, Star Wars. Matthew Morrison directed the said episode and during his ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ interview, he disclosed the identity of the iconic Star Wars character who dropped by McKinley High to spread the holiday cheers (and no, it is not Darth Vader), “We called George Lucas and they gave us Chewbacca.” And the cast, including Mark Salling, Harry Shum, Jr., and Chris Colfer, didn’t waste a minute to capture a shot with the hairy Wookie and post it on their Twitter pages.

The episode will feature six Yuletide classics, but none of them will feature Chewbacca singing (better to leave that to the less hairy human characters). Glee’s hairy and colorful Christmas episode will air on Tuesday, December 13, at 8 PM via Fox.

Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin Bring Latin Groove to ‘Glee’

The New Year is about to get feisty and festive as ‘Glee’ confirms that Grammy winners Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan will be appearing in an upcoming episode of the show set to air after the winter break.

“We just announced Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan for a Spanglish episode,” ‘Glee’ executive music producer Adam Anders said during Sunday night’s Trevor Live, a Trevor Project benefit event. “We’re just starting the planning, so I don’t know (which songs the pair will sing.) I wouldn’t tell you anyway!” he continued. The predictable choice of songs would most likely be ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ or ‘Conga’, but knowing the show’s history when it comes to guest stars, we can never tell how this Latino flair would pan out. One thing’s for sure though, Martin will be playing the school’s new Spanish teacher (so what will happen now to Mr. Schue? Wasn’t he McKinley High’s Spanish teacher?), and Estefan will be playing Santana’s mom.

Meanwhile, Anders was joined by the stars of the show with Amber Riley performing that night. The Trevor Project is a non-profit group aimed at fighting suicide and bullying among the LGBTQ youth, and ‘Glee’ has always supported the same cause as seen in their countless episodes focusing on the sensitive and important social issue.

“I’m excited everyone is here together supporting this cause. Last year I was here, but it wasn’t this big of a scale,” said Harry Shum, Jr., who plays dance savvy Mike Chang on the show. “I’m so happy to see it grow over a year and bring awareness. I danced last year. We’re alternating, this year Darren (Criss) is doing it and Amber’s doing it, but I’ll just enjoy watching.”

Anders, who worked that night as the event’s musical director alongside Adam Shankman, was surprised with the overflowing support the benefit and the group has received in barely more than a year.

“The amount of talent that’s come out to support has been amazing…everybody wants to be part of it and help out,” he said.

Dianna Agron Says Quinn Almost Got Scrapped from ‘Glee’

Posted by Glee Addict On December - 4 - 2011

Could you imagine ‘Glee’ without the crazy antics of Quinn Fabray? Glee wouldn’t be the sensation it is now without the drama that went down with her pregnancy in its first season, so it is now surprising to learn that Dianna Agron’s character almost got written off from the show before it even premiered. Apparently at that time, none of the casting directors, except for Robert Ulrich, thought that Dianna or any of the actresses who auditioned for the part, was perfect to play the overly insecure but popularly enchanting Quinn Fabray.

In an interview with Nylon Magazine, she said, “I went in and read, and they called me back two days later, and he told me to come back and straighten my hair and wear something sexy. I was like, ‘First of all, what is…”sexy”?’ I had been at an audition in Venice, and I was wearing the exact same thing I had on before, because it was my lucky audition dress that week. My hair was curly, so I went to [a drugstore] and bought a straightener and straightened it at Starbucks,” looks like her lucky audition dress worked after all.

So perhaps it was a good gamble on the part of the casting directors and producers to retain Quinn in the story, after all, no matter how unrealistic some of her and he co-stars’ plotlines may be, Dianna Agron is still one of the many plausible reasons people continue watching the Fox dramedy.

Chord Overstreet Returns to ‘Glee’

When Rachel Berry got suspended and banned from competing at sectionals after rigging the school elections, it pave the way for the return of trouty mouth Sam Evans, played by the boyishly charming Chord Overstreet, adding more male tones to New Directions who will be going up against the female ensemble Trouble Tones in Glee’s sectionals episode airing next week.

Last season, we saw Sam go through a roller coaster ride from being the new kid in McKinley, to pining over Quinn, struggling his way through his family’s financial meltdown and by the end of the school year, getting into a summer fling with Mercedes. Next week’s episode will provide a continuance for his story arc with Rachel and Finn finding him working at a strip club, where he earns an average of $60 in just 15 minutes. We’ll also finally get to meet his parents, played by John Schneider (‘Smallville’) and Tayna Clark (‘Guiding Light’), who are barely back on their feet after being laid off at work, and upon his return to McKinley High, Sam will see an opening with Mercedes when he learns that Bubba, her big, bad-ass boyfriend, is out of town.

“When he comes back he tries to pick everything back up with Mercedes, and she’s not really interested. He’s trying to figure out where he fits in back in this school that he has been away from for the last few months. He’s just exploring and trying a bunch of things. He’s trying to get on a school team so he has a little bit more popularity, I guess. The popularity thing is a route that he is trying to explore to see if that helps, but she’s not interested in him because she’s got that big bad boyfriend,” Chord tells E!.

He also gives us an insight on where does Sam stand with his feelings for Quinn, who has gone back-crap crazy this season. “She may be a little too crazy for Sam right now, I don’t know. If she gets her stuff together maybe, but we’ll see,” he says.
