Posted by Allison Francis On June - 26 - 2011

FOX has just unveiled its fall schedule with the third season of ‘Glee’ kicking off the slate as it returns on air on September 20. But before that, it will first air the 30-minute season premiere of ‘COPS’ at 8 PM, immediately followed by an encore at 8:30 PM, all happening on September 10. A week later, the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards will be aired live on September 18.

FOX will also be premiering new shows this season including ‘New Girl’ on September 21, ‘The X Factor (US)’on the 22nd, a two-hour debut of ‘Terra Nova’ of the 26th, the new comedy cartoon series ‘Allen Gregory’ on October 30 and the new comedy starring Jamie Presley, ‘I Hate My Teenage Daughter’, on November 23.

Long-running series ‘House M.D’ will come back for its eighth season on September 26, while ‘Bones’ returns from its hiatus for its seventh season on November 3.

‘Glee’ Cast to be Reloaded in 2012

Posted by Allison Francis On June - 23 - 2011

For the third season of ‘Glee’ this September, the well-loved cast of the hit show will be entering their senior year in high school. So it was only fitting to ask show creator Ryan Murphy on what the future holds for the Emmy winning series, its characters and its stars.

In a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest, Murphy stated that the show will stay “true to the timeline”, which means, for the show’s fourth season in 2012, we will be seeing new faces roaming the halls of McKinley High and auditioning for the New Directions Glee Club as Rachel, Finn, Quinn, Artie, Santana, Mercedes, Tina, Sam, Kurt, Mike, Lauren and Puck will all be graduating from high school and from the show too, and if Brittany could pull her grades up, she’ll certainly be donning the cap and gown too at the end of season three together with her fellow ‘Gleeks’.

“The thing that I wanted to do and the cast wanted to do, we didn’t want to have a show where they were in high school for eight years. We really wanted it to be true to that experience. We thought it would be really cool if we were true to the timeline,” he explained. McKinley High teachers Will Schuester, played by Matthew Morrison, and Sue Sylvester, played by Emmy winner Jane Lynch, will be staying though.

“We’ve got Matt Morrison and Jane Lynch who will stay and be the male and female lynchpins of the series. But I think the fun thing about the show is it’s a celebration of youth and talent and I think that just like with the original cast.”

Undoubtedly, the show’s reality spin-off, ‘The Glee Project’, will produce some of the new cast additions to the hit FOX series (season three will be featuring a seven-episode story arc for the show’s winner). And just like it did on its first season where the acclaimed dramedy musical series paved the way for a handful of breakout TV stars, Murphy will go for the same goal as he looks for new talents not to replace the first wave of stars that rode on the heels of the show’s success, but to continue the tradition of giving young talented aspirants the opportunity to be as successful as Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Mark Salling or Heather Morris.

“I think finding those young unknown people and giving them an opportunity to break into the business and become stars is a really fun and exciting thing and is the spirit of the series,” Murphy concluded.

Funny or Die Take on ‘The Matthew Morrison Story’

Posted by Allison Francis On June - 21 - 2011

Matthew Morrison has had a long and tedious journey before breaking out as Will Schuester in ‘Glee’, whose hair routine is probably just as long and tedious as the actor’s journey from casting calls that never materialized, to playing extras in shows like ‘Sex and the City’ (he was a bus boy in one of the episodes), to finally landing the big one in primetime TV, and even earning an Emmy nod for it.

Morrison’s story might be inspiring, even ‘Gossip Girl’ star Chace Crawford draws inspiration from the star (“Matt taught me a lot about surfing, really how to ride that wave out to the very end. That taught me a lot about love and life and how to cook an oatmeal frittata and how to build up my pecks”). But Funny or Die sees it differently.

From ‘Plea’ to ‘Flee’ to ‘Glee’, the comedy video website chronicles the actor’s career from a different and, should we say, outrageous perspective. From singing in a court room, to becoming a singing fugitive-wannabe, to singing his way into a glee club filled with high school outcasts, the Funny or Die skit is all about butt-chinned Morrison singing his way from acting obscurity to stardom, and he did all that without dropping his nice guy image, a curse that he had to suffer from when he didn’t get a call back from the casting directors of ‘Se7en’, ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘American History X’.

Glee hires six new writers for next season

Posted by Allison Francis On June - 16 - 2011

After a lackluster second season that earned mostly mixed reviews for its lack of focus, despite its relevant and somewhat controversial twists, ‘Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy brings in six new creative geniuses to the writers’ room in the hopes of creating a better, more refreshing and more exciting third season for the critically acclaimed show. They all start working this Monday.

“Last year you had the baby story line that everyone could follow and this year we didn’t do that,” Murphy tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Next year we’re going to be doing that more. What I have learned from this season is I think people want story arcs.”

The new additions to the creative team will not only help the existing creative heads – Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan – spice and clean up the series’ storylines, especially this season where more attention will be given to the freshman characters. With more manpower comes a more efficient division of labor, which was one of the show’s major hurdles last season, with the three creative heads who are also doubling as executive producers, handling all the writing workload for all 22 episodes, plus some directorial duties as well for both Murphy and Falchuk.

The incoming six new writers are clearly the best in the show’s genre, which is a mix of comedy, drama and music, as reflected through their credentials:

Allison Adler will join the three as the show’s new co-executive producer. She used to write for ‘Chuck’ and ‘No Ordinary Family’.

Marti Noxon got her first big writing break from ‘Angel’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. After working for ‘Mad Men’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and its spin-off ‘Private Practice’, she’s coming to ‘Glee’ as a consulting producer.

Michael Hitchcock of the ‘MADtv’ writers’ team is no stranger to ‘Glee’ since he has appeared in a couple of episodes, plus eleven episodes of ‘United States of Tara’. He’s back in ‘Glee’ not as an actor though, but as a consulting producer as well.

Fresh from the successful Broadway premiere of ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark’, where he served as the musical’s playwright, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, whose TV credits include the critically acclaimed HBO original ‘Big Love’, will be joining the team as a co-producer.

Matt Hodgson and Ross Maxwell will be the latest additions to the show’s team of staff writers. Hodgson has already served as a script coordinator for ‘Glee’ and has worked closely with Murphy on the set of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’. Maxwell, on the other hand, was last seen on screen in the film, ‘Running in Traffic’.

While writing for season three of ‘Glee’ begins next week, principal photography, care of 20th Television, will commence in August. The show will be back on air in September via FOX.

Chris Colfer to Write Two Novels for Young Adults

Posted by Allison Francis On June - 9 - 2011

‘Glee’ star and Emmy Award nominee Chris Colfer can now officially add ‘Book Author’ to his impressive resume after signing a two-book deal with publishing company Little Brown Books for Young Readers. His first book entitled ‘The Land of Stories’, about a pair of twins’ magical adventures after reading a storybook, is set to be released in the summer of next year. No release date has been set for the young actor’s second novel.

The 21-year old actor, who plays Kurt Hummel in the hit FOX series, is also penning a pilot for the Disney Channel with a working title ‘The Little Leftover Witch’, but that’s not all, he is also set to star in the upcoming fantasy flick ‘Struck by Lightning’, which he also wrote.

Looks like Colfer’s not only hitting all the right notes in primetime TV and onstage (you can catch him with the rest of his ‘Glee’ costars for the Glee Live! tour), he’s also scribbling all the right words and is slowly building a name for himself as a budding versatile artist.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy buys Theron’s Malibu home

Posted by Allison Francis On June - 7 - 2011

Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend’s Malibu love nest officially belongs now to Ryan Murphy, creator and executive producer of the FOX hit series ‘Glee’, and director of the 2010 Julia Roberts summer flick, ‘Eat, Pray, Love’.

Murphy bought the highly sought-after beach property for almost twice its original value. Theron and Townsend purchased the ocean front estate for $3.5 million from Steven Weber back in 2003. The 45-year old writer and director, also of ‘Nip/Tuck’ fame, got it for $6.562 million, a million dollars lower than its original asking price of $7.5 million.

The 1930 house is situated in an exclusive Malibu community right along the Pacific Coast Highway. It has three bedrooms, a large outdoor deck perfect for welcoming guests with a fantastic view of the ocean, three and a half bathrooms, a master bedroom with a huge Jacuzzi, and a private parking lot good for two vehicles. The property is also fully furnished, including a sleek and warm kitchen with its modern fixtures and brightening flowers and plants surrounding the area. It also boasts of famous neighbors such as actor Stephen Dorff.

After the couple broke up early last year, they had the property up for lease for $50,000 per month. They had it listed in the market in December but couldn’t get a buyer for the price they wanted for six months, until Murphy signed the papers for a million dollar less its selling value.

Meanwhile, now a free gal, Theron has been spotted a few times with actor Keanu Reeves, with whom she had appeared twice in the silver screen, first in 1997’s ‘Devil’s Advocate’ and then 2001’s ‘Sweet November’. The Academy Award winning actress is set to hit the set of ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ soon, where she stars as the Evil Queen while Kristen Stewart plays the titular lead. Murphy on the other hand is prepping for the third season of ‘Glee’ and the premiere of its reality spin-off, ‘The Glee Project’.

Darren Criss of ‘Glee’ to perform solo show in NYC 6/15

Posted by Allison Francis On June - 3 - 2011

“SO much has been happening,” Darren Criss posted on his Twitter account recently, and indeed there has been so much going on in the life and career of the new ‘Glee’ star. Apart from the Glee Live tour which will take the entire cast of the hit FOX series all across the country for a series of shows, Criss will also be appearing solo at the Irving Plaza in NYC for a one-night gig on June 15, 7 PM.

Tickets can be purchased via LIveNation.com starting on June 3 at 4 PM ET. No other information about the show has surfaced as of yet.

Criss, who first garnered attention for his hit web show ‘A Vey Potter Musical’ where played boy wizard Harry Potter, is one of the few cast additions to Glee’s second season. He plays Blaine, an openly gay student from Dalton Academy and the lead singer for the Warblers, a rival of the McKinley High New Directions Glee Club. His character’s smooth and crooning rendition of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’, which has become the show’s most popular cover of the season, won the hearts of ‘Gleeks’ everywhere including Kurt (Chris Colfer), with whom he became romantically involved as the season progressed.

Call (800) 745-3000 or log on to the Live Nation website to purchase your tickets. Tickets are also available at the Irving Plaza box office situated along 17 Irving Place. Check out Darren Criss’ official website for a complete schedule of his shows and other appearances.
