‘Glee’ Expanded to 90 Minutes for Lady Gaga Episode

Posted by Glee Addict On March - 30 - 2011
Lady Gaga combined with “Glee” will most likely make for an episode that is super-sized.  Reportedly Fox is planning to expand the April 26 show named “Born This Way” into 90 minutes of jam-packed, good stuff.
Most of the episode already has been filmed.  However the producers are planning on filming two more additional Gaga related numbers to fill in the expanded run time.
“Born This Way” is the second Gaga tribute, following “Theatricality.”  The forthcoming episode will not be featuring her music primarily like the preceding episode did.  However the self-acceptance theme is inspired by “Born This Way,” Gaga’s smash hit.  The episode will end with the new gay anthem being performed.
The story line will have the kids from New Directions coping with body image issues.  Lauren (played by Ashley Fink) challenges the beauty standards of the school and runs for prom queen.  Rachel (played by Lea Michele) thinks about having a nose job done.   According to Cory Monteith, the performances of the characters are being tailored around embracing things they don’t like about themselves for the episode “Born This Way.”

Lea Michelle Doing Fine After Car Accident

Posted by Glee Addict On March - 29 - 2011

According to the actress’ representative, Lea Michele is doing fine following a car accident.

Michele, who plays the role of Rachel Berry on “Glee,” reportedly was hit by a car in Los Angeles on Friday as she was driving home after work.

A representative for Michele confirmed she had been in an auto accident but that Lea had walked away uninjured.

The representative said, Lea was hit but not injured.  She is fine.  The police were notified.

Since then, Lea has been photographed out shopping with Theo Stockman, her boyfriend.  However, driving duties have been taken over by her dad.

This isn’t the first accident for Michele.  Previously, the actress revealed that she had been in a car accident while she was on her way to audition for “Glee.”

Lea confessed, I was in a huge car wreck before my second audition.  I just left the crashed car on the street.  I ran into my audition with glass on my hair and cuts.

I had a terrible neck ache during my final auditions from the car wreck.

Ryan Murphy Exits Director’s Chair for ‘Annie’ Remake

Posted by Glee Addict On March - 28 - 2011

The remake of “Annie” planned by Will Smith may be facing a few hard knocks. Director Ryan Murphy is leaving the movie.

Since early February when “Annie” was announced, the creator of “Glee” has been associated with the project. Willow Smith is set to star in the title role with Jay-Z and her parents acting as the producers. However, Deadline reports that Murphy has left following talks breaking off.

The report in Deadline didn’t state how Sony Pictures, the producing partner, and the Smiths will continue. However presumably they will continue pursuing the project and locate a new director for developing the film. Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith are both locked in to be the producers, with Jay-Z intending to handle the project’s musical side, so the film is standing on strong legs.

Beyond Murphy’s “Glee” commitment, he also has a number of other remakes of major musicals on his horizon. Following the “Glee” “Rocky Horror Picture Show” episode, reports started to flood in about Murphy meeting with Fox 2000 to discuss remaking the cult classic from 1975. Murphy was also mentioned as a director when “Wicked” started being developed by Universal last July for a big screen adaptation.

Murphy’s decision to forgo Annie could have been due to him having a film commitment that was more pressing. He confirmed in August that he was going to direct “The Normal Heart” starring Mark Ruffalo in June. In addition Murphy has an offer from Sony worth $5 million to re-partner with Julia Roberts following the successful “Eat Pray Love.”

Gwyneth Poised to Sign a $1 Million Record Contract?

Posted by Glee Addict On March - 27 - 2011

Gwyneth Paltrow has received several high dollar record deal offers. However she still hasn’t confirmed rumors that she’s about to sign a $1 million deal.

The impressive singing voice of the actress was revealed after the movie Country Song and her recent “Glee” appearances. Paltrow also performed at The Oscars and Grammy Awards.

Since then, Gwyneth has admitted that she has received lots of offers. However she had been worried about whether she would be accepted as a singer by the public. Truthfully I would really love recording an album. However, I’m not sure how to do it so it is not too cheesy. I would love doing that.

The star from Iron Man also confessed the new direction for her career was producing a mid-life crisis for her. She said, I need to figure out what it is I want to do. I am having lots of fun with this, even if I am having a mid-life crisis. I’m not sure who I am right now.

Paltrow added that any album she makes will have an indie rock sound. Chris Martin, her husband, would of course help out with writing songs. I completely trust him, Paltrow said. If I end up doing this, he wants it to be great.

Posted by Glee Addict On March - 23 - 2011

On April 19, “Glee: The Music presents The Warblers” will be released. The set will highlight the Dalton Academy Warblers, Glee’s a capella, all-male singing group that features the Tufts University Beezlebubs, Chris Colfer and Darren Criss.

Also featured on the set are “When I Get You Alone” and “Bills, Bills, Bills.” Two exclusive songs are also included. One is “What Kind of Fool” by Barbra Streisand which was performed by the Warblers and Darren Criss as the opener at MusiCares 2011 gala for Person of the Year.

To date Dalton Academy Warblers songs have sold a total of 1.3 million tracks. “Glee” last week had its highest sales for the first week for a single episode. “Original Songs” sold 722,998 downloads. In the past seven days “Glee” has sold a total of 964,000 downloads, breaking their own record. This February in one week they sold 880,000 tracks.

Gwyneth Paltrow Lends Her Cords to Matthew Morrison on Debut Album

Posted by Glee Addict On March - 22 - 2011

Will Schuester and Holly Holliday will once again make sweet music together. Translated from Gleek speak, Gwyneth Paltrow, the Oscar award-winning actress turned singer, and Matthew Morrison will be singing another number together.

According to an Entertainment Weekly report, Paltrow will be appearing on the upcoming solo album of Morrison’s. The set will be released on May 10. Paltrow is a recurring guest on “Glee” and plays Holliday, a flaky substitute teacher. She has covered “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac, “Forget You” by Cee Lo Green and “Kiss” by Prince. She performed “Kiss” with Mr. Schue (Morrison).

Now Morrison, a Golden Globe-nominated actor, is having the star from “Country Strong” help with his debut album on a song that is already synonymous with his character on “Glee”: “Over the Rainbow.” Morrison told Entertainment Weekly, people know me for this song now.

Morrison, who was trained on Broadway, not only used this timeless number from “Wizard of Oz” for his audition with “Glee,” he also sang the tune with Mark Salling, his “Glee” co-star (who in 2010 released a solo album “Pipe Dreams) during the finale for season one. Both times Morrison accompanied himself on ukulele.

Morrison said, I wanted to sing a duet along with a woman. This was a great song, I thought, to do this with. We did a very different arrangement. It’s beautiful. There are lots of strings.

Morrison admits he was nervous to approach Paltrow about participating on the recording. He said the toughest part of doing the album was asking for favors from people like Gwyneth and Elton. I’m not that kind of guy.

JC Chasez NSYNC member, has also been lined up for singing a duet on “Dancing in the Rain,” in addition to John and Paltrow.

There is no word out yet on whether or not any of Morrison’s cast mates from “Glee” will be appearing on his album. Although both Jayma Mays and Jessalyn Gilsig did champion to have duets on the set and Jenna Ushkowitz, Morrison’s co-star, has been singing the album’s praises.

Ushkowitz plays Tina Cohen-Chang, one of the glee club members on the show. In January at the Screen Actors Guild Awards she said, his music is great and added that on the album Morrison makes his own sounds and it was symphonic sounding while at the same time sounding a bit like Justin Timberlake.

A title for Morrison’s album hasn’t been announced yet. However in February at the post Grammy bash of Clive Davis’ he did reveal that the title “My Name” was being considered.

Season 3 Spoilers Spill Out of PaleyFest

Posted by Janice Bryant On March - 18 - 2011

With all the “Glee” spoilers being leaked at the recent PaleyFest event, you probably won’t need to bother with tuning into the third season to find out what happens. However as we all know Gleeks, that isn’t going to stop you from watching each minute breathlessly and buying their next five soundtracks at least three times.

Ryan Murphy, the mastermind behind “Glee,” was a top Gleek appearing at the ll panel at PaleyFest on Wednesday to honor the Fox series.

You can expect plenty of the favorites to return. Kristin Chenoweth in the role of April Rhodes will be back. She will be in town for Crossroads, her one woman show, although there isn’t any indication that it is related to the Britney Spears project. She will be there to do what April does best: bug Mr. Schue. Cheyenne Jackson, another Broadway star and actor from the TV show 30 Rock, will return in his coaching role for Vocal Adrenaline, the rival choir. Murphy also revealed we’ll also be getting reacquainted with Charice, the big voiced pop singer.

“Glee” will also be continuing to provide Gwyneth Paltrow with a reason for singing to a national audience. No surprise here. She returns as Holly Holiday, the sassy sub. On the panel Murphy said that Paltrow has become the show’s muse.

In terms of music, in Season 3 the habit of the show doing themed episodes will continue. Murphy revealed they will be devoting a complete episode to “Rumors,” the defining album from Fleetwood Mac. Considering the record documented the swapping of partners and breakup of the rock band, it’s tailor made for McKinley High’s halls. However Season 3 won’t be just rehashing hits. It appears “Glee” will be continuing to include original tunes as well. For instance, Chenoweth, is scheduled to get an original teacher friendly track, “It’s 10 a.m., I’m Drunk.”

The Season 3 story lines were more closely guarded. However a couple of relationship-related spoilers were spilled by some of the panelists.

Mercedes (played by Amber Riley) finally will find love. However it appears she will need to settle for one of the contestants from the forthcoming Oxygen Network “Glee” theme reality show.

In terms of the current power couple of the show, Blaine (played by Darren Criss) and Kurt (played by Chris Colfer), although later in the season they will be prom dates, the Klaine cuteness by Season 3 will have a bit more angst tempering it.

Brad Falchuk said at PaleyFest, when people start to date, what else happens? Things go to hell. Later Colfer hinted that “hell” could mean that one of them may transfer to McKinley High.

Gwyneth Paltrow to Return in Season 3 of Glee

Posted by Janice Bryant On March - 18 - 2011

It seems there are more sex education lessons that need teaching still.

At PaleyFest, “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy announced that Gwyneth Paltrow, semi-permanent guest star who is currently in the midst of her second “Glee” run, will return to do another run of guest spots during the third season of the show.

Murphy said, Gwyneth is like the show’s muse. We are friendly. I can also write to her on a weekend and ask her what she thinks about an episode even if she’s not in it. Gwyneth has opinions. She is great.

In “Glee”, Paltrow plays Holly Holiday, the sex ed teacher. In November she had an appearance. Murphy was so delighted that she was brought back for an additional two episodes. In Paltrow’s most recent episode that aired on Tuesday Paltrow sang the Stevie Nicks song “Landslide” and also “Do You Wanna touch Me” by Joan Jett.

There’s no word yet on whether or not her and Matthew Morrison’s romance storyline will continue. There have been some steamy moments between the two. Morrison has referred to them as “kind of weird.”

The music career of Paltrow’s has risen during the past year after her movie “Country Song” as well as her appearances on “Glee.” She is scheduled to record an original album.

Glee’s Original Songs Take Over iTunes Charts

Posted by Janice Bryant On March - 17 - 2011

When it comes to the music charts and TV, “Glee” has been a gigantic hit. That’s no secret. The show has been one of the top ranked Fox shows on a consistent basis. Their songs also do well usually on the top 10 at Apple’s iTunes. However the show’s songs until now have been exclusively covers- of artists like the Beatles, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. However this week, “Glee” producers decided to release three of their own songs. So how did their original songs do on the charts? This week they performed even better than their covers. The show, in all, had six of the top 10 slots on iTunes as of Thursday, which was two days after “Glee” aired.”

“Loser Like Me,” one of Glee’s original songs, debuted in the No. 1 spot. “Get It Right” debuted at No. 2 and “Hell To the No” came in at No. 8. They also covered Pink’s “Raise Your Glass,” which was No. 4; the Beatles song “Blackbird” which was No. 5 and Maroon 5′s “Misery” which was No. 7.

“Glee” is not only dominating the iTunes chart. They are usually and currently Hulu’s most popular show.

Matthew Morrison to Take Director’s Chair for Glee Episode

Posted by Janice Bryant On March - 17 - 2011

Matthew Morrison, the “Glee” actor, songwriter and Broadway star, will be adding another role onto his resume soon: director.

During a recent TV industry event, Morrison said he was hoping to take the role of director on “Glee,” and during the third season definitely.

Previously, Morrison said that doing his acting work with “Glee” at the same time that he was recording and trying to promote the album was the hardest he was ever going to work for being seen and noticed. Until I am 40 I want to just push it. Then I want to get in back of the camera and produce films. I wanted to be involved more with the storytelling process.

Morrison won’t be 40 for another seven plus years. It appears he will be getting behind the camera a lot sooner than he thought.

The debut album of Morrison’s will be hitting stores shelves this May. On March 8 “Summer Rain,” his first single, was released.

On April 13, “Glee” will be returning from hiatus.
