The “Glee” stars are reported to be bitter about their limited earnings from royalties from the sales of their chart topping soundtrack release, “Glee: The Music – Journey to the Regionals” which was released last year under Sony Music.
After moving millions of copies worldwide amounting to millions of dollars, the cast of the highly acclaimed and top rated Fox TV series particularly Cory Monteith who plays school jock “Finn” and Mark Salling who plays kid-tossing bad boy “Puck” say they were receiving less than what they ought to get from the album sales.
In a radio interview in Washington, DC, Monteith was quoted in saying “I got 400 bucks from it going no.1”, whether that was an exaggeration or not, it only implies that the actor was indeed paid less than what he was supposed to receive, and so did the rest of the cast, as well.
As a result, Mark Salling and Matthew Morrison, both of whom are now busy prepping for their forthcoming solo efforts, are strongly considering signing with other music labels, while the entire cast has brought the matter to the attention of the show’s creator, Ryan Murphy.
A New York Post insider said that the cast members are “furious” for being “misled by Sony”. The insider also added, “Sony should have known better – they kept their hands on money that could have been paid to the cast…but by upsetting the biggest talent on TV, the label is cutting its nose off to spite its face. It is myopic, short-term thinking on their part.”
As of press time, Sony Music and Fox have not released an official statement.
