Amber Riley Joins Colbie Caillat for National Anthem at All-Star Game

Posted by Janice Bryant On July - 14 - 2010

Major League Baseball has experienced a number of botched renditions of the national anthem. However at the All-Star game on Tuesday night, they were given an impressive home run.

Amber Riley, “Glee” star and Emmy nominee, delivered a pitch perfect “The Star Spangled Banner” rendition to delighted fans, following Christina Aguilera’s moving performance of “Beautiful.

Two time Grammy award winner Colbie Caillat, for the seventh inning stretch, sang “God Bless America.”

It was old hat for Riley to sing at a major Major League Baseball game.

Last fall during the World Series showdown between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees, Riley and her cast mates from “Glee” performed the national anthem.

Caillat and Riley joined other elite singers such as Brian McKnight, Carrie Underwood and Sheryl Crow who have been performers in recent years during the MLB All-Star Game.

These singers’ performances have been grand slams, However, there were plenty of strikes out before that.

Pop singer Anastasia prior to the 2002 All-Star Game, botched some of the national anthem lyrics. Instead of singing “perilous fight” she sang “perilous night.”

The next year Michael Bolton during the American League Championship Series forgot some of the lyrics and needed to glance at his hand. Apparently, he had written the words down there.

However the most infamous foul-up of the national anthem came from Roseanne Barr. In 1990 at a San Diego Padres game, while belting out “The Star Spangled Banner” in off-key fashion, spit and grabbed her crotch.

Britney Spears Episode Coming to Glee Season 2

First Lady Gaga and Madonna went to “Glee.” It’s Britney Spears turn now.

A FOX rep confirmed that Spear’s music is going to be featured on an early episode during the second season of “Glee.” Last week the FOX series received 19 Emmy nominations.

Ryan Murphy, Glee series creator, also addressed some of the upcoming season casting rumors. He said that Julia Roberts wouldn’t be doing a show, to debunk one rumor before he fanned another’s flames.

Murphy said, Javier Bardem would like to play a rock-n-roll Spanish guy. If we can get that to work, he is the best out there. We would probably do that during the season’s first half.

The potential appearance of Javier on “Glee” was reported first earlier this month, prior to being denied apparently by a rep from 20th Century Fox.

Who will appear in the second season of “Glee?” Ryan Murphy, the show’s creator, is the only one who knows for sure.

He revealed that Julia Roberts wouldn’t be doing a show.

After laying one rumor to rest, he fanned the flames from another.

Murphy said, Javier Bardem says he wants to play a rock-n-roll Spanish man. He is the best, so if we can get that to work we would probably do that early in the season.

Before a representative from 20th Century Fox reportedly denied it, the potential appearance of Javier’s was reported for the first time last week.

As for the stars who appear on the show already, Murphy also cleared up a few cast hook up rumors and seting a policy of no on-set shenanigans.

He said, I was misquoted. It was completely blown out of proportion. I was joking around about how there a rule of no action inside the trailer. The reporter apparently thought I was being serious.

Murphy says the stars have priorities that are much higher in mind.

Murphy joked, they are counting their lines and way too busy trying to figure out who is prominently featured during an episode. They don’t have time to care about sex.

On Thursday, “Glee” received 19 Emmy nominations their debut season. It was the most nominations any television series received this year. Given that, it would appear that there is a lot of pressure riding on Seasons 2 and 3. However Glee’s creator is remaining calm.

Murphy said, we created this show inside a vacuum. We will continue doing that.

Glee’s Sue Sylvester is Madame Tussauds’ Next Project

“You think this is hard? I’m passing a gallstone as I speak – that’s hard!”

That’s Jane Lynch in her famous Sue Sylvester tone but not in front of the Cheerios, this time, as Madame Tussauds’ next wax subject.

The 49-year old Emmy nominee who plays cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in the award winning Fox TV Series “Glee” was caught by the press while she was posing and being measured for her upcoming wax statue.

“Posing for a wax figurine is exhausting!” says Lynch. “I hope we capture the inner Sue, but the inner Sue is the inner Jane Lynch as well”, the actress added.

For Lynch, playing Sue Sylvester allows her to dig through her inner meanness, saying “I probably couldn’t act it if I didn’t have it in me.”

No wonder she plays the character with such ease.
