Glee Movie Not in the Works Yet
Ryan Murphy, co-creator of Glee, told Entertainment Weekly there aren’t any plans into the foreseeable future for any Glee movie. This in spite of last week’s talk where all the show’s major stars, including Mark Salling, Lea Michele, Dianna Agron and Cory Monteith, signed 20th Century Fox contracts just in case big screen plans come through.
There were as many as three potential Glee movies being discussed. However Murphy says right now that isn’t their priority. Despite offers, the studio and I decided we would to focus our energy on our second season without having any cast distractions, Murphy said.
I think that’s a good move. Sure I have a fear of a Glee movie losing the spark that has made it such a special television show. Also there’s a lot going on for the crew and cast. Writers are preparing second and third season story lines. Online auditions are taking place for three new roles for this fall. There is also news that Charice, the pop star, will be joining the show in the role of an exchange student who, more or less, will kill Rachel. Then there are all the songs to consider.
The question is gleeks, would you still like a Glee film to come out, or do you think the energy should be focused on the television show?
Coldplay Gives Glee Green Light to Catalog
As the hit Fox show “Glee” started becoming a big hit, bands started lining up for an opportunity of having the kids from William McKinley High perform their music.
Well not everyone. Most notably Bryan Adams, power ballad master from Canada, and Coldplay, the British soft rock group, both said no.
However, the Hollywood Reporter was informed by Ryan Murphy, “Glee” producer and writer, that Coldplay changed their minds and the entire catalog of the band has been made available for the show.
In the beginning, Murphy said, lots of people didn’t really know who we were. They wanted to preview pages. I refused. I didn’t want any precedents set in terms of any involvements. Bryan Adams was my favorite rejection. Really the only ones who rejected us were Bryan Adams and Coldplay. However a week ago Coldplay called and said, sorry, here’s our catalog.
A “Glee” kids performance can result in lucrative payoffs for song publishers and writers. A year ago their version of the Journey song “Don’t Stop Believing” hit the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, while their Madonna theme EP made it to No. 1.
Lea Michelle, Matthew Morrison Shine at the Tonys
Glee stars Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele returned to Broadway with their 2010 Tony Award appearances. Morrison sang “”Gypsy’s” “All I Need is the Girl” while Michele sang “Funny Girl’s” “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” She also performed that back in December on “Glee” for sectionals.
Morrison and Michele both started on Broadway. Michele made her debut in the original 1995 “Les Miserables” New York production as Cosette’s replacement. In addition she appeared in “Spring Awakening,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Ragtime.”
Morrison’s Broadway debut was with “Footloose.” He also appeared in “Hairspray,” “The Rocky Horror Show” and “The Light in the Piazza,” which earned him a Tony nomination.
Emma’s Love Interest is None Other Than John Stamos
Mr. Schue move over. This fall you will be getting some competition for the affections of Emma. John Stamos, former star of ER, is joining the cast of “Glee,” the sizzling hot series from Fox.
Stamos will be playing dentist Carl Howell. During the season finale, Emma told Will she was dating a dentist. Stamos, like the other “Glee” cast members is an accomplished singer. Stamos has had quite a successful acting career. In “Full House” he played Jesse Katsopolis, the most memorable role in his career so far. Jesse on that show had a band and performed numerous times during the 8 year run of the show on ABC.
In addition Stamos played drums in several Beach Boys music videos and also has appeared in several shows on Broadway, including “Cabaret” and “Bye Bye Birdie.”
In order to compete the the heart of Emma, Mr. Schue may need to brush up on some musical numbers.
Sneak Peek at Glee Season 2
Facing a long, hot summer will be hard on all the Gleeks, with the first season coming to an end and no new “Glee” episodes to watch.
However, rabid fans of the show are in luck. Here’s an inside scoop on what we can expect to see next year.
Co-creator Ryan Murphy said, we are plotting the show’s first 11 episodes. The first six we know already. They will be moving and big fun episodes. We go back always to the idea of how our society feels and treats funding the arts. The answer is always not too good.
Here are a few other things that Murphy says we can expect to see in the second season of “Glee”:
* More musical tributes- Our Madonna episode was incredibly popular. I think we will be doing two tribute episodes- one in fall and then one in spring. We are still figuring out which artists they will be.
* New characters- Murphy already slipped up and said Susan Boyle may be making an appearance. However the producers also are looking to add new members onto the Glee club, including getting Kurt a boyfriend.
Murphy said, I just want the character to be the average every day guy. I want him to be having struggles with his sexuality. Then Kurt helps him cope and during the process they end up falling for each other.
Another thing to look for is Mercedes getting a love interest as well as a Carrie Underwood-like Christian country singer as a rival of Rachel’s.
When people hear about us doing that they think we will be making fun of Carrie, Murphy said. We aren’t. Our show is inclusive and gives lots of people voices.
* Major season finale- Season two will end with in New York at Nationals. We don’t know if they are going to make it. That hasn’t been figure out yet.
